I envisioned it working out and I also envisioned being okay with it not working out and then it did work out and I thought to myself Well Maybe There Is Something To All These Hopes And Prayers After All.
The best part of my day was this morning when I was walking to get some coffee. Waiting to cross the street in front of me there was this girl with a backpack who looked like a middle or high schooler taking out her headphones. Just as Pink Pony Club started playing in my headphones she put on hers and started to dance. Just as the light changed she turned, realizing I was there. She laughed, because I’d seen her dancing I guess, and I smiled back. She turned around and danced across the street in perfect rhythm with the song in my own ears.
When I got to the coffee shop another song I had queued up came on, a song I did not remember. I photographed its name on the radio in my mom’s car a few days ago then looked it up and pressed ‘play last’ this morning. As I watched my coffee be poured I realized the song was actually one I’d heard not only days before but weeks before. I remembered that I wanted to listen to it again but couldn’t find it because I didn’t know the name or the lyrics and Shazam doesn’t seem to recognize songs when I hum the tune. Now it seems to have found me.

One day far from now we will all sit together at the big coffee shop table in the sky and we will laugh about this. It is the table where our grandmothers pray for us over lattes.
